“Pawn Shop Drugs”

Cleveland Ohio’s The Morning Bird take a much more somber and melancholic shift with “Pawn Shop Drugs,” Song 2 of from their Mindrocket Session. This track both sonically and lyrically, encapsulates the feelings of desperation; missing the mark and rejection. The Alt-Country vibe and soulful melancholy of the refrain: “I gave you my heart, you gave me pawn shop drugs, some secondhand medication, when all I wanted was your love,” set to restrained instrumentation, both hits at the heart and the soul. The song then takes on a surprising shift at its climax, with soaring reverb-drenched guitars taking the lead in building a wall of sound to a new level of emotion and release, before crescendoing up to one final lyrical refrain.
